Sound Your Engine

The race is on. Summer’s winding down and the exciting Fall season is on its way.

First up, MOCA welcomes the students back with a new show and a party, Sound Your Engine, featuring performance art, music and custom car culture. Now that’s more like it. My buddy James Levin is at it again, transforming MLK into a cross-culture jam called Cleveland One World Festival this Sunday. Be there, and bring the kiddies. I mean your friends.

Mahall’s is revving up with the LKWD Music Fest while the Whiskey Daredevils pull a few wheelies to celebrate a decade of decadence. Get the stroller revved up and over to CMA for Art Appreciation for Babies. I know a few babies that would dig that. Speaking of which, Team Spencer is backing up little Spencer Gansert in his superhero fight against his arch villain.

This is the sound of Cleveland: Cloud Nothings sounding off @ the Beachland; Invasive plants invading SPACES; Rita Montlack opening @ 1point618; Belt launching @ St. John’s; PechaKucha doing donuts @ the WSM; Birds, Beasts, Brats & Beer careening around CMNH; Cool Cleveland’s own Alexsandra Sukhoy reading on Murray Hill. And all of it sounding great.

Mansfield is in the driver’s seat with his provocative essay, The “Niggranazation” of White America, required reading for cool Clevelanders. As is his review of The Butler. As well as Roldo’s suggestion for shaking up Cleveland City Council. Meanwhile, commentator Larry Durstin suspects politics in Sherrod Brown’s recent relocation. Yeah, we’re sounding off.

Win $20 like Becky Cummings, just by downloading and using Cleveland’s coolest mobile app. In case you can’t tell, we’re all revved up and ready to go. –Thomas Mulready

While it’s admittedly a bit presumptuous on my part, I, nonetheless, am proposing to add a new word to the lexicon: Niggranazation…

In the summer of 2013, as the country watched the all-seeing eyes of Gatsby’s billboard looming overhead, another pair of faceless bespectacled peepers peered at citizens from bumper stickers, shirts, and coffee mugs.

The fearless eyes belong to none other than luminary Spencer Gansert…
