The Tuesday Musical Association closes its 2023-2024 season with a big name: a performance by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), featuring 15 of the top jazz musicians working today. And Marsalis, the ensemble’s artistic director since 1991 and nine-time Grammy winner, is certainly one of the best-known jazz musicians to the greater public.
Since it launched in the late 1980s the ensemble has performed all over the world, including with some of the most prestigious orchestras and has a massive repertoire of material, including jazz classics by legends such as Count Basie, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Mary Lou Williams, Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington; commissioned works; and works written by present and former members of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Two previous appearances by JLCO for Tuesday Musical in 2011 and 2017 attracted capacity audiences so it’s a good idea to get your tickets now. It takes place at E.J. Thomas Hall at the University of Akron.
