Seasonable
This is our season. Middle of winter is celebrated in the South, and up in Canada, they love to cool off those hot August nights. But for people new to our region, it’s always a surprise when Springtime comes around. Not for the weather usually, although this year, we’ll take it. More for the culture, as this is Festival season on the North Coast. The Film Fest is winding up this week, and next we gear up for the Rock Hall inductions, with the JazzFest right around the corner. Look closely and you’ll find our guide points you to some of the coolest things happening this week: new exhibits at the Artists Archive of the Western Reserve, CIA & Tri-C, Soul Food at the Screw Factory, a finale at MOCA, Long Road at Nighttown, Drumplay at the Beachland, the kickoff of Restaurant Week, and a dance party in Akron. These sessions take place Fri 3/30, Sat 3/31 & Sun 4/1 at University of Akron and also at their new Cuyahoga County branch, the University of Akron Lakewood.
We’re shooting live this Sun 4/1 at noon from the University of Akron Lakewood, and we’ll be talking with the award-winning film makers and TV producers who are teaching these sessions. ROLDO: Are Things as Bad as They Seem in Jackson’s City Hall Roldo, it wasn’t that the teachers wouldn’t take the bait when the state that controlled Cleveland schools in the 1990s tried to smash the district by forcing pay cuts, scouring the country to recruit untrained strike breakers to replace teachers and bringing paramilitary goons in as security guards. It didn’t work because Lou Stokes stepped up and told the state you can’t do this to black children…
