The Musical Theater Project Celebrates the Music of Jerome Kern

Fri 10/19 @ 7PM

Sun 10/21 @ 3PM

The Musical Theater Project’s The Song Is You! Series uses commentary, photos and videos to illuminate the music of 20th century pop and musical theater composers and provide background into their work.

Its upcoming concerts, “Silver Linings: The Songs of Jerome Kern,” are devoted to a prolific composer whose works are familiar to almost everyone. His repertoire includes the score for Showboat (“Ol’ Man River,” “Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man”), “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “I Won’t Dance,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “The Last Time I Saw Paris,” “Look for the Silver Lining,” “A Fine Romance,” and yes, “The Song Is You.”

Tenor Shane Patrick O’Neill and soprano Amy Weintraub are the featured vocalists, performing to new arrangeents for piano, violin and cello written by Ty Alan Emerson. TMTP founder/director Bill Rudman and Nancy Maier co-host and narrate.

The concerts take place at First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights on Friday and the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Mixon Hall on Sunday. Tickets are $30-$38.
