Fri 9/21 @ 5-9PM
There’s a lot new this month at 78th Street Studios Third Friday art walk.
HEDGE Gallery opens a show of new work by one of its represented artists, Dott Schneider, called Road Trip. She draws on painting, printmaking and drawing as well as use of natural materials to delve into her love of travel and the impact it’s had on her life and her creativity. The show will be up through Fri 11/2.
CWAL Gallery will present new bodies of work by two of Cleveland’s leading artists in Illustrious Decay. The gallery will feature the vivid anthropomorphic work of Arabella Proffer, which explores biology, disease and the body on a cellular level. Jennifer Omaitz’s sculptures respond to Proffer’s paintings by creating surreal, interior spaces the incorporate decaying parts. The two artists will also be showing a site-specific collaboration. That show will be on view through Fri 10/19.
E11even2 Gallery opens one of their trademark pop culture-themed shows, called Reservoir Fiction. It’s gallery co-owner Billy Naininger’s take on his favorite Quentin Tarantino films, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, done in his mixed-media pop art style.
He says of the work, “The portraits consist of many different styles and textures of papers that I cut out by hand with an x-acto knife and then it’s layered for a three dimensional effect. One sheet on top of the next brings the portraits all together. Most pieces also include paint, pastel, image transfer and found objects. I’ve always liked adding many different elements and mediums to my pieces, but the main material is layered paper.”
The show is on view through Fri 10/19.
