Thu 10/12-Sat 10/14 @ 7PM
Cleveland’s No Exit New Music, which as its name suggests, specializes in doing things you haven’t seen or hard already, us kicking off a season devoted to Surreality with a program called “Games,” based on the sort of creativity exercises that inspired the Surrealists in the 1920s. They describe it as “irrational, illogical, inexplicable, strange and utterly fantastical.”
It will feature not just music, but also poetry, art and an installation. And the ensemble will be joined by the violin/viola duo andPlay. The program will include all world premieres: by Adam Roberts, Maya Bennardo, James Praznik, No Exit’s Timothy Beyer, and an anonymous trio who have created “memory pieces” based on Chopin’s Minute Waltz. And local poetsRay McNeice and Raja Freeman will bring brand-new poetry.
They’ll perform at Kent State’s Ludwig Hall on Thursday October 12, at Heights Arts in Cleveland Heights on Friday October 13 (where a Surrealist-inspired installation called Collaborage is on view), and at SPACES on Saturday October 14.
All three concerts are free and open to all.
