The next production from the adventurous Tremont-based theater Convergence-continuum flips the script on all the “open borders/flood of illegals” script being mouthed by way too many politicians and their followers these days. In Greg Lam’s Last Ship to Proxima Centauri he proposes a final ship escaping from Earth after it’s become uninhabitable, and arriving at its new home planet centuries after the others to discover it’s already been populated by people from non-white, non-European countries who aren’t thrilled to see 100,000 Americans flooding their borders.
Lam’s plays have been produced across the country; Last Ship to Proxima Centauri debuted online in 2021 (pandemic) and live in 2022. His bio says he writes “largely, full-length epics which combine grinding moral quandaries with science fiction, short plays that are comic romps, and one-minute plays which are incredibly depressing.”
The play opens Friday May 24 and runs Thursday through Saturday @ 8pm through June 15 at convergence-continuum’s home, The Liminis. Get tickets at convergence.continuum.org.
