The Akron Art Museum has been hosting its free Downtown @ Dusk music series for four decades. In recent years, they’ve taken place in its relatively new Bud & Susie Rogers Garden adjacent to the music building.
This year, the series will feature five concerts, with some returning artists and some new ones, To kick off the season on July 11, JT’s Elektrik Blackout will perform their dynamic mix of instrumental jazz, rock and funk, filled with both catchy riffs and dazzling solos. The band is led by sax player Justin Tibbs, who also plays with eclectic theatrical Akron vocalist Angie Haze.
On July 18, Umojah Nation will be back with their roots reggae, followed by series mainstay the Numbers Band on July 25, and modular synthesizer player Lisa Bella Donna on August 1. The series closes on August 8 with a dance performance featuring Inlet Dance Theatre with the Djapo Cultural Arts Institute and Pacific Paradise Entertainment.
While the shows are free, they appreciate registration. Go here.
