The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra gives jazz fans the chance to catch their latest program, Cupid in the CLE, in two different settings: Playhouse Square’s Ohio Theatre on Friday and the intimate supper club environment of Blu Jazz + in Akron on Saturday.
But the music will be the same: plenty of romantic standards with a love theme for Valentine’s Day arranged for the expansive but nuanced sound of the sound of this big band made up of some of the area’s best veteran musicians and up-and-comers.
CJO will host a couple of guests for these performances. Local jazz/pop/R&B vocalist Evelyn Wright is familiar to area audiences from her many performances with CJO as well as other ensembles and headlining club shows. The second special guest is legendary trombonist Jiggs Whigham, now 75, who began his career in the early ’60s with the Glenn Miller/Ray McKinley Orchestra and Stan Kenton’s Band.
Tickets for the Ohio Theatre are $35-$65. Tickets for Blu Jazz + are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
