Jazz Sax Player Bobby Selvaggio’s Painting Project Plays BOP STOP

Fri 10/6 @ 8-10PM

Northeast Ohio alto sax player/composer/arranger/educator Bobby Selvaggio is on of the area’s better-known jazz musicians, perhaps because he works so damned hard and is always expanding his musical reach. He spent some time in New York City where he earned his master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music and performed in the city’s famed jazz clubs.  He later moved back to his hometown where he’s now the Director of Jazz Studies at Kent State University.

Every time we look up, it seems like he has some new collaboration with any number of other great local players from two to a dozen. Usually they showcase some of the music he’s been writing, whether it’s for a small ensemble or a big band.

Now he’s bringing his Paintings Project to a venue very familiar to him and his fans: the BOP STOP. This one’s just a quarter, but what a quartet. In addition to Selvaggio himself, it features drummer Anthony Taddeo, bassist Kip Reed and guitarist Jonah Ferguson. Only the latter is relatively unknown, but then Selvaggio doesn’t work with inferior musicians.
