St. James Catholic Church’s Sounds of St. James concert series will naturally focus on the nativity story this month.
Its Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols program will follow the Lessons and Carols format of nine short readings from scripture telling of the coming of the Messiah and the Nativity narratives of the Gospels, each followed by a musicalselection, ending with a benediction and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The music includes Christmas compositions by Edward Elgar, Morten Lauridsen, Franz Biebl and Herbert Howels, as well as traditional carols.
The concert features vocal music performers from the Oberlin Conservatory with St. James’ music director Adam Chlebek on organ. The free program is followed by refreshments. Any donations will go to the performers.
