This year, Cleveland Public Theatre is doing its annual DanceWorks series in two parts, each featuring three different ensembles, allowing it to showcase more of our local dance troupes of different types and vintages.

Part II will showcase four ensembles, starting with one of the area’s more established groups, MorrisonDance, founded 25 years ago by Sarah Morrison. Their program will respond to the query “What is Dance?” looking at the variety of possible answers to the question with what they call a “hodgepodge” of types of movement, choreographed by Morrison along with her performers, Amanda Clark, Jennifer Eccher, Anthony Jamison II, David Lenahan, Tabitha Miner, Taylor Raines, Ian Smith, and a guest appearance by former company member and choreographer Maree ReMalia, with new music composed by Braden Pontoli.

“From surreal bird-like creatures tipping their cone-shaped hats to Swan Lake, all the way to jumps and rolls exploring the force of gravity at 9.8m/s^2, MorrisonDance productions always ignite curiosity and delight!” they promise. This may be one of the more veteran troupes in DanceWorks, but they never cease to surprise.

Performances run Thursday-Saturday and all tickets are “Pay what you choose.” Verb Ballets holds down the second week, April 27-29, followed by Mojuba! Dance Collective May 4-6, and closing with Shri Kalaa Mandir May 11-13.
