Hale Farm & Village again celebrates its two-weekend Harvest Festival, giving visitors a sense of what it was like for 19thcentury Ohio settlers to get ready for the winter during the busy fall season.
The various pioneer-style buildings will be buzzing with demonstrations of crafts such as apple cider pressing, butter churning and fermentation that allowed preservation of the harvest in the days before modern canning and freeing techniques. As usual, they’ll be demonstrating other 19-century skills such as weaving and blacksmithing.
There’ll also be seasonal food available and live music, plus a visit from “Johnny Appleseed” on October 1 and 2. There’ll also be artisans selling items handcrafted at Hale such as pottery, textiles hand hand-blown glass pumpkins. And Café 1810 will be serving seasonal favorites including drinks such as apple cider mimosas and hot apple cider.
