Thu 9/8-Sun 9/18
The 16th annual Mandel JCC Cleveland Film Fest opens this week, kicking off 11 days of movies looking at Jewish themes in various different ways: humorous and serious, documentary and narrative, long-form and shorts, 30 films in all from 10 different countries.
While most of the films will screen at the Cedar-Lee Theatre in Cleveland Heights (and some will be available virtually, only to viewers in Ohio), opening night will be at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History at 7pm Thursday September 8. The 2022 documentary Fiddler’s Journey to the Big Screen will be the featured film detaining how the 1964 Broadway musical was made into the 1971 movie and the impact making it had on the director Norman Jewison and his relationship to his own Jewishness. The concluding program of shorts on Sunday September 18 will take place at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage.
