Painter Tricia Kaman is one of the area’s best-known artists, with a career that spans nearly 50 years. Although it’s not her only subject, she’s especially known for her portraiture. Her studies of women in quiet, intimate moments, derived from live models, reflect their individuality with warmth and empathy. Her work has been displayed all over the region, most recently at the Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls, Stella’s Art Gallery in Willoughby and Article on Waterloo Road. Lst year she was named the Ohio Governor’s Awards for the Arts winner in the “individual artist” category. And her business, Kaman’s Art Shoppes, trains artists who work at amusement parks and zoos throughout the U.S. and Canada.
She’s also known as a supporter of the arts. From her longtime studio in the Murray Hill Schoolhouse, she’s been a driving force in keeping the Little Italy Art Walks alive.
Now she’ll be opening a big retrospective of her career work at the Mentor Municipal Center called Tricia Kaman Through the Decades, 1974-2024. It opens with a free, public reception on Friday January 26 @ 7-8:30pm. It will be on view Monday-Friday @ 8am-5pm through March 1.
