With the imminent overturning of Roe v Wade, diminishing women’s ability to control their own bodies and life choices, It’s clear people who support women’s freedom needed to wake up years ago to the looming threat. Still, it’s never too late to learn more from people who have been on the front lines for years.
LEAD Ohio, which is dedicated to developing the progressive leaders of the future, hosts a virtual speaker series and its next presentation is “Post-Roe Ohio: Reproductive Rights and the Role of the Judiciary,” taking place on Zoom.
Three people who’ve been engaged in the fight for women’s reproductive rights in Ohio and elsewhere will look at the impact the likely U.S. Supreme Court decision will have on Ohioans. They’ll talk about how abortion access has eroded in the past 50 years, how it will change as a result of the Supreme Court ruling, and how it’s likely to refocus on individual state efforts to maintain reproductive options.
Speakers are New York-based Katherine Granger, a managing partner at Civitas Public Affairs Group and co-founder of Supermajority, which focuses on building women’s political power; Case Western Reserve law professor Jessie Hill, whose work focuses on constitutional law, civil rights, reproductive rights, and law and religion and who has been involved in numerous legal fights to challenge abortion restrictions in Ohio; and Kersha Deibel, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region.
