Pop-Up

ShopLOCAL We’ve been preaching it for years. But this time around, it seems more embedded in the zeitgeist. Because what goes up must come down. And if we don’t take care of our own, no one will. Plus we like the better service, superior quality, close proximity and overall positive vibe we get by shopping locally. But we know you need help to find local purveyors, fabricators and merchants. And boy have we been busy.

Peruse our voluminous ShopLOCAL guide, fully updated to include cool new categories like Biking, Handmade, Vintage Shops & Clothing, Record & Music Stores, and Pop-Ups, Markets and Bazaars. It’s been our most popular feature ever, so enjoy avoiding the big boxes and keeping your mojo local.

Pop in to some cool happenings this week: Speedbumps release an album at TKS, Glow opens at the CBG, Ice Age takes over CMNH, stroll the holidays on Larchmere, light up Public Square with Winterfest, party it up at the Whs District’s holiday tour, and for variety see Doug Is A D-Bag at CPT.

We’re giving away t-shirts for using the Cool Cleveland mobile app, or hashtag us and win free buzz. Or do both and get popping. –Thomas Mulready

ShopLOCAL
Shop Sane

It’s that time again. As big box retailers increasingly encroach upon a national holiday with their Black Friday (now Black Thursday?) sales, we’d like to remind you there’s a better way to shop. ShopLOCAL. Shop at places owned by your neighbors that, in all likelihood, will be CLOSED on Thanksgiving.

We’ve compiled a list of the best places to shop, whether you’re looking for record stores, bookshops, vintage boutiques or a place to get a treat — we’ve got you covered. View the list here.

Every year, shoppers in Northeast Ohio seem to become more and more conscious about shopping local during the holiday season (and year round).

To encourage you to shop locally, we’ve compiled a chronological list of upcoming holiday pop-up markets to help you coordinate your holiday shopping…

Genghis Con
Where Local Comics Creators Shine

Now in its 5th year, Genghis Con is an annual celebration of local and regional underground comic and small print creators.

“Hopefully, we’re building something here with Genghis Con. That’s why I’ve been part of it since the first year,” says Derf. “For years the Cleveland comix community consisted of me running into Harvey Pekar at the grocery store. It’s frustrated me since I moved here in 1986….”
