Symphony of Secrets is a titillating name for a classical music concert, and the upcoming program from CityMusic Cleveland contains a half-dozen hodge-podge of pieces that aren’t staples of the classical repertoire. It includes lesser-known works by well-known composers: Ludwig Van Beethoven’s King Stephen Overture and Felix Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 10 in B Minor. It also includes 20th-century Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla’s “Libertango,” contemporary Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s Danzón No. 2 (Chamber Version); 18th-century Italian composer Domenico Cimarosa’s Concerto for Two Flutes in G Major; and early 30th-century African-American composer Florence Price’s Suite of Dances.
Violinist Brendan Slocumb conducts the program with Kimberly Zaleski and Laura Gilbert performing as the solo flutes on the Cimarosa concerto.
The ensemble performs at East Mount Zion Baptist Church on Thursday February 8; at La Sagrada Familia in Gordon Square on Friday, February 9; at Our Lady of Angels on Saturday February 10; and at St. Sebastian Parish in Akron on Sunday, February 11.
As always, CityMusic concerts are free and no tickets or reservations are required.
