Tue 5/2 @ 7:30PM
The Jerusalem Quartet was founded in 1993 and since its debut in 1996 has had only one member change, quite a record for a long-running string quartet (That member landed a slot in an orchestra).
Today, the four Israelis — first violinist Alexander Pavlovsky, second violinist Sergei Bresler, violist Ori Kam and cellist Kyril Zlotnikov — perform all over the world, playing a repertoire that includes Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Shostakovich, Haydn, Debussy, Ravel and even Yiddish music. They released a recording Beethoven’s six string quartets in 2016.
Once again, they’ll be the guests of the Cleveland Chamber Music Society, this time performing at Disciples Christian Church in Cleveland Heights. The program includes Sergei Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 2 in F major; Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 10 in A-flat major; and Bela Bartok’s String Quartet No. 5.
