Thu 12/15 @ 7PM
The old Agora on East 24th Street spawned a lot of behind-the-scenes music business careers back in the 70s. Kevin Dugan was part of the so-called “Rowdy Roadies” stage crew, many of whom went on to tour with major artists. And Dugan was one of those.
Starting with local acts who had a national impact such as the Raspberries, James Gang and Rainbow Canyon, he moved to California in the mid 70s and started to hook up to be on the crew with acts such as Fleetwood Mac and Van Halen — he’s worked as a personal assistant to Van Halen’s Michael Anthony for more than three decades.
Buddy Maver made his mark on the local scene as a member of breakout bands such as Charade and Rainbow Canton before segueing in the flipside of the business as manager and booker of the Cleveland Agora, presenting concerts by acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Pat Benatar, U2 and the Police. He also once performed nude with Rainbow Canyon at the Miss Nude U.S.A. in Indiana in 1973.
Dugan comes home to Cleveland every year for Christmas and has been doing “backstage” talks at the Music Box Supper Club for years. This year Maver will join him as they reminisce about the good old days and how they got their start.
Doors open at 5 for the 7pm talk. There’s a $20 fixed price three-course dinner option, but you can also order off the menu. Admission is free; make a dinner reservation here.
