Mon 5/3 @ 1:30-3:30PM
Have you ever looked around downtown at the wealth of public art located there? Sure, everyone knows about the Free Stamp at the corner of East 9th and Lakeside, and some people could identify the Jim Dine sculpture at the Federal Courthouse. But what are all those historical statues that have been there forever and we seldom give a second glance? What’s tucked in nooks and crannies we may never glance into at all?
Learn all about all the styles and eras of Cleveland public art on the Downtown Public Art Walking tour, which starts at Public Square every Monday at 1:30pm. You’ll learn about the background of the works, their history, the artists’ story and why that piece is located where it is.
You’ll see modern works like Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen’s Free Stamp and Stacy Levy’s Sky Blossoms on Mall C contemporary sculpture, as well as traditional statues of historical figures such as Jesse Owens, Alexander Hamilton and Tom Johnson, and Tiffany stained glass.
Tours are about two hours and reservations are required. Book your spot on the Tours of Cleveland website.
