One Of Us

It’s a big election coming up on Tue 3/6, probably the biggest for our region since the decision to overhaul our County system and turn out the old 3-Commissioner arrangement. This time the big race is for County Prosecutor, the one area least affected by County reform. Five unique candidates are running, and they have agreed to answer CoolCleveland’s questions between now and election day. Their first round of responses are below.

But that’s not all. This week, we urge you to join Near West Theatre as they pause from their life-changing theatre experience to celebrate with their biggest party of the year. And Isaac Mell talks with Shaker Heights resident Jim Karlovec about Stephen Auerbach’s cycle race film, Bicycle Dreams, playing this week at the Big Dog Theatre. Greg Cielec preps you for a totally cool February, and local dogs need your help. And, yet, there’s more… –Thomas Mulready

Candidates Respond
County Prosecutor Candidates Answer Our Questions

This is a big election, and it comes at an important time. County reform is a little over a year old, and many changes have been instituted by newly elected County Executive Ed FitzGerald and the new County Council. But the reform process that has transformed Cuyahoga County didn’t affect the Prosecutor’s Office, until this election.

On Tuesday, March 6, Cuyahoga County voters will choose between five candidates for the position of Cuyahoga County Prosecutor: Subodh Chandra, Stephanie Hall, James McDonnell, Tim McGinty and Robert Triozzi. For this week, we asked each of them the same set of questions:

On a scale of one to ten, please rate the current prosecutor’s office. Then, in 350 words, please tell our readers what you would do differently.

All five of the candidates have responded to our invitation to answer some questions in the weeks leading up to the election. Click below to read their responses to the first set of questions:
* Subodh Chandra
* Stephanie Hall
* James J. McDonnell
* Tim McGinty
* Robert Triozzi

The news that Cleveland City Council is considering legislation that prohibits numbskull dog owners from chaining pets outside 24/7 is very welcomed… if long overdue.

There’s a special place in Hell for those who take “man’s best friend” and turns them into vicious, snarling and dangerous threats to the community. Makes me kinda sorry horsewhipping was outlawed…

Can You Be a Huge Success in Cleveland? Or Do You Have to Go Somewhere Else, First? It’s a great article and it reminds me of something that I learned when I came to school here (from out of state). It was that this region had, at one time, the most patents per capita of any place in the world…

There is also a pattern, at least when it comes to our larger not-for-profit organizations, to hire people from outside of Cleveland. I’m sure the candidates are well suited to the jobs, but if you look at the largest 25 not-for-profit and cultural organizations in town you will see a pattern of Cleveland not bringing up Clevelanders…

Great article! Most creative folk I know have left here not so much for acclaim, but rather for a more engaged, vibrant, connected artistic community. Cle is filled with fantastic, creative people, but in my opinion, this area lacks connectivity, forward thinking, and a consistent solid support system for the arts…

There are successful people in Cleveland, but Cleveland’s reputation needs some major work. Think about it, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is here, so Cleveland was successful enough to host this world renowned entity. But where do they stage the induction ceremonies and why is that?…
