New WRHS Exhibit Looks at What People Wore to Work

Thu 9/8 @ 6-8PM

The Western Reserve Historical Society has a sate of new exhibits on its calendar for the fall, giving people a reason for a return visit.

Dressed for the Job: Clevelanders in Uniform opens on September 8 at WRHS’s Cleveland History Center. It shows the variety of distinctive outfits Clevelanders have worn as they built what Cleveland would become, starting in 1796. Costume and Textiles Curator Patty Edmunson drew on the WRHS collections to find garments and supporting materials such as decorative arts, archival documents, photos and paintings to show what local people wore as they filled roles in the military, industry, civic affairs, religion, sports, medicine, education and more.

To celebrate the opening the Cleveland History Center is hosting a grand opening event with Edmonson. People are invited to come in uniform to symbolize what they do or a role that’s meaningful to them. The $20 admission ($10 for members) includes a drink and light snacks; additional wine and beer will be available for purchase.
