Make some space for meditation, reflection, and enjoyment of nature during the yuletide season with a Winter Solstice Luminary Walk, courtesy of the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes and the Shaker Historical Society.
Luminary candles will light South Park Boulevard between the close-by two organizations, which will both have their gift shops open for some holiday shopping.
Holiday music will be provided by Nightengale — Women’s A Cappella, and the nature center will have fires blazing, hot beverages and additional food and drink available from local vendors.
The event is free.

This is soulful! Aesthetics for today /Celebrations of people
Throughout the ages and through the sages there are voluminous histories and interpretations of concepts of beauty.* Beauty mostly from eyepoint. Where is the soul?
The butterflies know where the nectar is. You know where the nectar is too. I feel it when I meet people and look into their aging eyes.
Capturing the last remnant of civility, looking around at what been gives praise to the human spirit—blind to disorders the cracks in the sidewalk earth’s blemishes YOU are to be celebrated!
Celebrate the bridges we have crossed, gullies leaped over and unattended, the solid landings we have made,
Celebrate the spirit of living, the genius of memory, and speech,
Celebrate friends talking because they care, their stories count,
Celebrate family because they do care and always will,
Celebrate stories that spill into every vacant space, important listening even for those who cannot hear,
Eyes follow the paths, but what is felt is more important,
Celebrate imagination and humor,
Celebrate the minds that go back 30 years, 40 years, 50 years and beyond,
far better than today’s observations that are misunderstood,
Celebrate our wisdoms as we collect them from home from the street, from writings …
Celebrate knowledge accumulated over years and years of knowing people, and now, with some time one can listen to hearts in action,
Celebrate longings and satisfactions,
Celebrate smiles-they say more than words,
Celebrate fabrics —the old woolens, silks and hand-woven knits,
Celebrate the August peaches, full-season’s summer, juice drizzles to the soul,
Celebrate lilac and of course roses, all aromatics, smells for the soul all year,
Celebrate favorite tastes—mint jelly and lamb, real bagels, chocolates,
Celebrate the trees in the afternoon sun—their particulars of shape all seasons
Celebrate you. You are a butterfly of hope.
