Mon 4/10-Sun 4/16
One of the Cleveland music scene’s most under-recognized assets is college radio. Stations WJCU FM88.7 at John Carroll University, WCSB FM89.3 at Cleveland State University and WRUW FM91.1 at Case Western Reserve University offer round-the-clock programming of all types of music on specialty shows, ranging from Broadway hits to bluegrass to noise music, hosted by both students and veterans of the local music community.
Periodically the stations host their on-air radiothon fundraisers, offering various premiums for donations. And my alma mater, WRUW, has theirs coming up this week, Monday April 10 through Sunday April 16. Like political candidates, who WILL take your money after their midnight deadline, they’ll accept your donation anytime. But this is one time you can get some station swag and help encourage others to donate. WRUW says about 50% of their operating budget will come from the donations.
Go to wruw.org for information and to take a look at their programming schedule to find something that might interest you. Then make a donation during that show; the host will appreciate the support.
