There’s a certain presidential candidate — and no, they are not both “just the same” — who has appealed to his frightened, bigoted base by suggesting that refugees are a major source of terrorism in the U.S. In fact they are not a source of it at all.

The real story is that they are carefully screened escapees from unlivable situations involving persecution of some kind. And they come to this country, and to Cleveland, motivated to work and succeed.

The Refugee Services Collaborative of Greater Cleveland wants more people to know their stories. So it’s hosting a screening of five mini-documentaries that tell the stories of five refugees making their way in Cleveland, showing how they contribute to the economy and culture of the city. It takes place at the Breen Center in Ohio City. The evening includes light refreshments and a panel of refugees, employers and entrepreneurs talking bout their experiences. It’s free; reserve a seat here.
