What would Christmas be without The Nutcracker? The classic ballet, set to music by Tchaikovsky, is a staple in the repertoire of dance companies and often their biggest moneymaker. The holiday party that opens the show, the wooden soldiers and dancing mice, the snowflakes, and its second act with its globally inspired dance solos and the dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, provide a lot of family-friendly magic.
So get your daughter/granddaughter/niece dressed in her fancy dress with the tutu skirt and her patent leather shoes and head over to the Akron Civic Theatre for the annual Nutcracker performances by Ballet Theatre of Ohio, which has been doing the show for some three decades. They bring spectacular sets, gorgeous costumes and wonderful dancing. Not only that but there’s holiday magic in the lobby as well with a Santa’s workshop with elves and Santa himself to take pictures with, a 12-foot Nutcracker tree, Nutcracker sweets and a boutique with 100 different nutcracker
