You don’t get to be one of the most influential bands of the past 50 years by holding your tongue. And Robert Kidney, founder of 15-60-75 The Numbers Band (with brother Jack and saxophonist Terry Hynde) never holds back. Now The Numbers band is celebrating their 50th anniversary with shows at The Kent Stage (Sat 2/29) and The Beachland Ballroom (Sat 3/14).
In this extended and uncensored interview on Main Street in Kent, Ohio, where the band was formed, Robert Kidney expounds vociferously on why the band was such as breeding ground for punk (Jerry Casale of DEVO and Chris Butler of The Waitresses both started with The Numbers Band), how much he hates recording in the studio (they have a new album coming out: Endure: Outliers on Water Street), and how things have changed in the past 50 years (some things have, some things haven’t) .
They’ve even been offered to play with Joe Walsh and David Crosby at the upcoming benefit concert to mark the 50th anniversary of the Kent State shootings on Sat 5/2. Robert Kidney’s half century refusal to compromise is on display once again. Don’t miss it.

Excellent interview with Mr Kidney, Mr Mulready. I’d always wondered what he’s be like in real life. Funny and insightful guy.
That live album is still in my top ten LPs. And so is “Animal Speaks” as a top ten song.

Bob & Jack were my next door neighbor in Cuyahoga Falls in the 60’s and 70’s. Saw them at the Cove when I was 14 or so with their younger brother Dan. Many nights at JB’s in the late 70’s, early 80’s. Great band, glad to hear they are still playing.
