We assume you’ve already voted NO on Issue 1 or have made a plan to do so on or before the August 8 election, right? (See early voting times above.)
So far the NO campaign — which supports protecting voters’ ability to stand up to the state’s corrupt one-party rule — has outspent the “yes” campaign on advertising, but we hear that’s about to change. Expect ads telling people they’re voting on abortion — not protecting their right to actually vote on abortion in November. There’ll probably be some ads telling you a “no” vote will force you to let your daughter become a boy, or some such nonsense.
And of course, Ohio Secretary of State Frank “Jim Crow” LaRose will likely continue to misuse his position as Ohio’s top elections official to promote the “yes” campaign to take away voter power.
If you’re all set but would like to do a little more to make sure Issue 1 goes down to defeat join the League of Women Voters “All-League All Hands on Deck” gathering at the Lakewood Park Women’s Pavilion. Meet some of the leaders of the NO campaign and hear from LWV Ohio executive director Jen Miller exactly how passing this issue would silence the state’s citizens. Maybe hook up with a phone bank or a postcard writing party.
Connect with other activists! There’ll be refreshments as well. RSVP at lwvgreatercleveland.org/.
