ENCORE Chamber Music Institute Presents “Voice of the Whale” at CMNH

As part of the ENCORE Chamber Music Institute’s 2024 Encore — Gates Mills Music & Ideas Festival — Planet Earth, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History is hosting a concert called “Voice of the Whale.”

The evening will open with some science education. CMNH’s Chief Science Officer Dr. Gavin Swenson will talk about the role of insects in our ecosystem, how they’re impacted by climate change and how we can protect them.

A musical program will follow, featuring Paul Wiancko’s American Haiku; Grażyna Bacewicz’s Quartet for Four Violins; Jean Sibelius’s Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 79; Johannes Donjon’s Rossignolet — The Nightingale ; and George Crumb’s Voice of the Whale. 

Seven other musicians will join ENCORE founder/artistic director, violinist Jinjoo Cho, including violinists Mihaela Martin, Stephen Miahky and Brendan Shea; violist Eric Wong, cellist Max Geissler, flutist Jasmine Choi, and pianist Hyunsoo Kim.
