Cuyahoga Valley National Park Hosts Native-American Environmental Activist

Mon 3/22 @ 7PM

Winona LaDuke’s name is well known in the environmental and indigenous activism communities. The now 61-year-old enrolled member of the Ojibwe people has been engaged with issues such as women’s rights, sustainable food systems and anti-pipeline protests for more than 35 years. Some may also remember her name in a less positive context: a member of the Green Party, she was presidential candidate Ralph Nader’s running mate in 1996 and 2000 — and the latter run was a factor in handing the presidency to George Bush.

Currently, she runs an industrial hemp farm on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota and continues to write books. Her latest is called To Be a Water Protector: Rise of the Wiindigoo Slayers, in which she advocates for systems and policies that protect land, air and water so they can sustain healthy life.

LaDuke is the next speaker in Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Crooked River Reads virtual series. It’s $8.50 for CVNP members, $10 for others. Go here to register.
