Main Street Kent, which represents the downtown merchants in Kent, has been coming up with a tsunami of ideas to get people out and about, engaging with local businesses, learning more about the town and getting some walking and creative exercise.
Its design committee has now developed a brand-new web-based walking tour, packed with information about the buildings around downtown Kent and the people who contributed to building the town.
The Industrial Area Historic Walk, developed by Kent State Historical Society and Museum direcotor Julie Kenworthy, retired preservation architect Doug Fuller, master’s student & Map It! GA Josie Myers and KSU associate professor of geography Jen Mapes, looks at buildings from the early manufacturing period and the railroad era, exploring why they were built the way they were.
