Piano Cleveland President Guests with Blue Water Orchestra on Shostakovich Work

Sat 10/7 @ 7:30PM

Blue Water Chamber Orchestra dives headlong into its new season with a special guest: its first-time collaboration with pianist Yaron Kohlberg, who is not only a distinguished concert pianist but also the president of Piano Cleveland. He’ll join the ensemble in a performance of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C minor, which premiered in Leningrad in 1933, with Cleveland Institute of Music student Austin Cruz on trumpet solo.

That piece will cap a program that also includes Gustav Mahler’s version of J.S. Bach’s Orchestral Suites, or Suite Aus Den Orchesterwerken, and Igor Stravinsky’s 1942 Danses Concertantes, an orchestral work commissioned by George Balanchine and inspired by his choreography.

The program will be conducted by Blue Water’s artistic director Daniel Meyer. It takes place at University Circle’s Church of the Covenant. Go here for more information and tickets.
