Cleveland keeps proving its bona fides as a polka town over and over, largely thanks to the unflagged efforts of the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame in Euclid, which sponsors numerous events all year long.
And coming up is its 40th annual Super Button Box Bash, taking place at the American Croatian Lodge in Eastlake, which they’re describing as “the Woodstock of polka music” (without, of course, the mud and the bad drugs.)
Ten button box groups and artists, with more than 50 accordions, will be taking turns on the main stage, while jazz sessions will be going on in the annex — bring your own accordion and join in! Some of the featured performers include the Fairport Jammers, Ron Likovic, the Valencic Brothers, Frank Moravcik and Linda Hochevar (pictured), Kathy Hlad and Patty C & the Guys, but musicians will be coming in from all over. And members of the Slovenian Junior Chorus, Circle No 2 of the Slovene National Benefit Society, directed by event founder Cecilia Dolgan, will be gathering for a reunion performance.
In addition to music, there’ll be ethnic foods such as Slovenian sausage and strudel available for purchase, along with merch from the Polka Hall of Fame’s pop-up shop. Get tickets ($3 off in advance) from the Polka Hall at 216-261-3263 or PolkaShop@aol.com.
