Alternative country artist Nora Jane Struthers have been through northeast Ohio many times in the last seven or eight years. The hard-working road singer has played virtually every venue amenable to her acoustic-flavored folk/roots music including Happy Days Lodge in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Oberlin’s Riverdog Barn, the Blue Sky Folk Festival in Lake County, the Music Box, Akron’s Musica and Nighttown.
The former schoolteacher moved to Nashville and traded teaching for a full-time music career more than a decade ago. Since then, she has parlayed her clear, warm vocals, with echoes of both bluegrass and rock & roll, into a flourishing career, fueled by major festival appearances and half a dozen critically acclaimed albums.
She married band member/multi-instrumentalist Joe Overton in 2016 and wrote about the changes in her life, including her lifelong struggle with infertility (which she sang about on her 2017 album Champion). The eventual birth of her daughter in late 2018 and her journey to balance music and motherhood fuel her brand new album Bright Lights, Long Drives, First Words, which she’ll be celebrating the release of with a show at the Beachland Tavern.
She’ll be joined there by Cleveland folk-alt country singer/songwriter Austin Stambaugh, whose recent 10-song album Where She Will Go features the performer in stripped-down mode, mostly accompanied by his own six-string acoustic guitar, plus a touch of pedal steel and bass.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $14 at the door.
