Heads of the Area’s Small Arts Organization Talk in Pecha Kucha-Style Program

Sun 7/23 @ 2-3:30PM

So Mary Urbas, who is the director of the gallery at Lakeland Community College, had this big idea, because when doesn’t she have a big idea? But this one was LITERALLY a big idea: it features oversized works by a couple of dozen area artists, and it takes place in four of the area’s small arts organizations (the only thing small about it!)

Dubbed THE BIG @SS @RT SHOW, the participating galleries include Lakeland’s, of course, as well as Artists Archives of the Western Reserve in University Circle, Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls and BAYArts in Bay Village.

This weekend, as part of the show, THE BIG @SS @RT TALK will take place at the Lakeland College Auditorium, adjacent to its gallery, featuring “the big heads of little arts organizations.” The pecha kucha-style event, where each speaker shows 20 slides and talks about each for 20 seconds, includes not only the heads of the four participating organizations, but six others as well. And it spotlights the essential role women play in the area’s visual arts organizations: all the speaker but one (Antwoine Washington of the Museum of Creative Human Art) are women.

The lineup includes Pat Carroll Bonander (Willoughby Arts Collaborative), Monica Glasscock (Geauga Arts Council), Rebecca Gruss & Julie Polsinelli (Valley Arts Center), Nancy Heaton (BAYarts), Letitia Lopez (The Julia De Burgos Cultural Arts Center), Robin Robinson (Sankofa Fine Art Plus), Mary K. Thomas (The U & I of Euclid Avenue), Mindy Tousley (Artists Archives of the Western Reserve), Mary Urbas (The Gallery at Lakeland) and Antwoine Washington (Museum of Creative Human Art).

The program will be followed by a reception in the gallery where you can see Lakeland’s piece of the show. It’s free and open to all. RSVP here.
