Convergence-Continuum Theater Reopens With Black Comedy

Fri 8/20-Sat 9/11

Here’s some good news. This week tiny Tremont-based theater convergence-continuum becomes one of the first small theaters in Cleveland to reopen its doors.

C-c is known for its adventurous script choices, producing works otherwise unseen in the area. They often deal with complex issues of identities and relationships, including LGBTQ+ ones.

They’ll reopen with Oliver Parker!, a black comedy by Elizabeth Meriwether, which was first staged in 2010. The production is directed by c-c regular Tom Condilas, with a cast that includes Emelio Fernandes, Amanda Rowe, Valerie Young and c-c founder Clyde Simon.

The synopsis tells us that it deals with “an unlikely and uncomfortable friendship exists between old-man alcoholic Jasper and socially awkward 17-year-old Oliver Parker. Living in squalor in a decrepit New York apartment owned by Oliver, Jasper just wants to be left alone — but Oliver, determined to use the apartment in his quest to get laid, loses patience with his pathetic existence very quickly. Shady dealings involving a grieving politician and her ambitious assistant Agnes only increase the tension between them, and soon buried shame and secrets bubble to the surface.”

It wouldn’t be a convergence-continuum play if secrets didn’t bubble to the surface!
