One way to get to know who is active in the area’s singer/songwriter scene and what they’re composing that might strike a chord with you is to go to one of the local songwriter nights that crop up regularly. Usually three-four musicians will share the stage, trade stories and even provide backup vocals or additional musical support for the others’ tunes.

Of the three who are part of the Cleveland Songwriter Showcase at the Music Box Supper Club, Madeline (Maddie) Finn is probably the best known. Although only in her early 20s, she won the Tri-C High School Rock Off with her band in 2010. She now performs as Whiskey Hollow, with music based on American folk forms that compliment her dark, coiled vocals.

She’ll be joined by Lorain County’s Austin Stambaugh, who has a gospel background and put out his debut release, an EP, this past spring, and Ryan Manthey, both relative newcomers to the local scene. Admission is $7. It’s a “Lucky 7” show which means admission includes one craft cocktail special of the day.
