Millennial Theatre Company Streams “Songs for a New World”

Sat 10/24

Northeast Ohio’s Millennial Theatre Company debuts its online production of Jason Robert Brown’s Songs for a New World, starting Saturday October 24. It’s a show made for these times, telling the story of the aspirations, hopes and dreams and the choices people make to obtain what they think they want.

“The show deals so heavily with the idea of facing a new challenge and learning how to overcome obstacles that it felt like the perfect show for our times, and we were able to assemble the perfect cast to perform it,” says director Joe Asente. “In a world where everything feels so wrong, this is one of the few things that just feels so right.”

Among the members of its large cast is Broadway actress List Howard who has appeared in shows such as 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Escape to Margaritaville and 9 to 5. It’s a sort of homecoming for the Akron native and Firestone High School alum., even though she and the other performers, who come from eight states and two countries, were not physically present together.

“While all of the video was recorded in isolation, we edited it together to give it a very cohesive feel,” says Asente. “This production is nothing like the other online shows that have played online during the shutdown, as it plays much more like a movie, using multiple locations, scenic elements, costumes, and green screens to bring the world of the show to life in a more cinematic way.”

Tickets are $20 for a single ticket and $30 per family for streaming access. Once tickets are purchased, the streaming code provided will be active for 48 hours after the play button is hit for the first time.
