The Musical Theatre Project Unpacks 1947 Musical “Brigadoon”

Sat 6/22 @ 7:30PM

The Musical Theater Project has planned another evening, paying tribute to one of the great musicals: Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loew’s 1947 musical play Brigadoon. Its fantasy story about a pair of American men who stumble on the Scottish village of Brigadoon, that appears for a single day once a century. Needless to say one falls in love with a local girl and then … how will he be reunited with her? Despite the far-fetched plot, Brigadoon produced such classic tunes as “Almost Like Being in Love,” “Come to Me, Bend to Be,” and “The Heather on the Hill.” It was made into a movie in 1954 starring Cyd Charisse and Gene Kelly.

Hosted by TMTP’s artistic director Bill Rudman and Nancy Maier, “Waitin’ for my Dearie: Brigadoon & the Magic of Love” is a “docu-concert” which means that, in typical TMTP style, it will feature videos clips, still photos, commentary and dialogue, interspersed between musical numbers featuring vocalists Andrew Hubacher, Kate Michalski, Amy Weintraub and Trey Milcowitz, along with a small chorus and orchestra.

It takes place at the Maltz Performing Arts Center. Get tickets here.
