Cleveland band Tropidelic has been burning up the touring circuit, especially regionally, for more than a decade. Their party music, which folds rock, reggae, hip hop, funk and jazz into a mix that features the eclecticism and positivity of jam-band music, oozes warm-weather vibes, and like many such bands, summer festivals are the backbone of their year. And like many such bands, they host their own festival, bringing together many of the bands they meet on the road.
This year would have been the fifth for the multi-day Freakstomp. But you know what’s coming next: it’s not happening in 2020. And being a band that tours heavily, they’re obviously getting cabin fever.
And while it won’t be quite the same as a live gig, Tropidelic will be getting the full band together to perform at the Beachland Ballroom — a show that will be livestreamed for their fans. Akron rapper Jul Big Green opens.
The show is presented by Cleveland Rocks: Past Present and Future and RCR Recording Studio. It’s free but donations are appreciated; a percentage of the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Cleveland Rocks, which supports the local music scene. Go here to join the party.
