American violinist/conductor Joshua Bell had the good luck to be born in Bloomington, Indiana, where one of the country’s top music schools is located and thee was a plentiful supply of skilled teachers once he showed an interest in and aptitude for music. In the 40 years since he made his orchestral debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 14, he’s performed with and conducted orchestras around the world, and in 2011 became the music director of British chamber orchestra the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

In 2019, he married young Puerto Rican soprano Larisa Martinez, who has performed frequently with Andrea Bocelli and debuted that same year at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Now they’re touring as a couple for the first time, and Akron’s Tuesday Musical, which has previously presented Bell and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, is one of the first to present them. They’ll be joined by pianist Peter Dugan at E.J. Thomas Hall.

The program, “Voice and the Violin,” includes music by Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Schubert, Louis-Ferdinand Herold, Pablo de Sarasote, Geronimo Gimenez, Giacomo Puccini, Narciso Figueroa, Sergei Rachmaninoff & Fritz Kriesler, and Leonard Bernstein.
