I just got a lovely picture of a snowfall from a friend of mine — in Memphis. Northeast Ohio so far has been passed by. But when it comes, be ready to enjoy it. Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center is in the heart of the snowbelt east of Cleveland so it’s the perfect place to go snowshoeing.
This year it’s snowshoe borrowing program is back and it’s free for Geauga County residents; only $5 for out of country residents. And new snowshoes are available for kids 3-6 and under 50 pounds so the whole family can enjoy some brisk, outdoor winter fun.
Borrowing can take place between 10am-3pm and last up to two hours; snowshoes must be returned by 4pm. An adult of at least 18 must be present to check out snowshoes, and a signed waiver form ad driver’s license are required as a security deposit. Showshoes are available on a first-come/first-served basis, so keep an eye on the weather and head out when you see a few inches on the ground.
Geauga Park District also has guided snowshoes hikes and learn-to-snowshoe programs; check their website for dates and availability.
