So maybe you missed all the big holiday markets or maybe you don’t like shopping with a mob. But you still yearn to give family and friends unique gifts and support local artists and makers.
Good news! A couple of area arts organizations have jam-packed holiday shops and they’re open seven days a week through Christmas, including Monday and Tuesday. Stop by Heights Arts in Cleveland Heights where the entire gallery is packed with items from local creative people, or head out to Bay Village where BAYarts has its annual holiday shop, expanded from its regular shopping area. Both organizations offer everything from cards, ornaments and inexpensive stocking-stuffers to fine art paintings, prints and photos, in a wide range of prices. Heights Arts is open every day from 1-7pm and will be open Christmas Eve from 10am-4pm. BAYArts is open 9am-8pm Monday through Thursday, Friday 9am-3pm and Christmas eve from 9am-1pm.
Another place to find locally made goods is Made Cleveland in Cleveland Heights’ Coventry Village, also open seven days a week. The year-round store features a constantly expanding range of items, many of them Cleveland-themed, including Cleveland scenic photos and t-shirts. If your friends aren’t Clevelanders or Cleveland boosters, there’s jewelry, candles and body products and even food products such as honey, applesauce and hot sauces — all created locally. They’re open from 11am-7pm every day except Monday when they’re open until 9 — that’s when local singer/songwriter Charlie Mosbrook hosts his open mic night there. Check with them to see how late they’ll be open Christmas Eve or risk having to do your last-minute shipping at Walgreen’s.
