Cleveland Public Theatre’s “Gloria” Explores Competition in the Publishing World

Sat 3/23-Sat 4/13 @ 7:30PM

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Gloria, which opens at Cleveland Public Theatre this weekend, looks at the competitive culture of magazine publishing and a staff driven by the idea of fame and fortune and a big book publishing deal by the age of 30. Described as “simultaneously funny and shocking,” the play looks at how far some people will go for a breakthrough opportunity. Playwright Jacobs-Jenkins was a 2016 recipient of the MacArthur Award; Gloria was a 2016 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

“When you’re striving to be your best, what masks do you wear and how does that change you to the core?” writes Beth Wood, CPT associate artistic director & director of production and director of Gloria, at CPT’s website. “How much of yourself will you sacrifice to get ahead? Gloria explores the deep repercussions of ambition.”

It runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday through Sat 4/13. Tickets are $15 for previews, Thursdays and Mondays, $35 for Friday and Saturday performances.
