Close Encounters House Concert Features Piano in Music by Brahms, Schubert & Schumann

Sun 12/10 @3-5PM

The Close Encounters concert series, put on by Heights Arts, gives classical music fans a chance to listen to some of the area’s most gifted musicians, including members of the Cleveland Orchestra, in intimate, elegant settings — often private homes. These relaxed Sunday afternoon events are currently curated by Cleveland Orchestra cellist Dane Johansen.

Concert 1 in this year’s series features Israeli pianist Yaron Kohlberg, a celebrated international promoters who’s won many major competitions. But he also a close connection to this area: in 2018 he became the president of one of those prestigious contests, the Cleveland International Piano Competition.

He’ll be joined by Johansen, violinist Jessica Lee and violist William Bender (both also Cleveland Orchestra members) to perform Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet NO. 3 in C minor. He’ll also perform some solo piano pieces by Franz Schubert and some traditional Chinese songs. (He currently lives in China and is fluent in Chinese.)
