CPT Youth Ensemble Explores What It Means to Be Young, Black and Female

Fri 12/18 @ 7PM

Sat 12/19 @ 4PM

Cleveland Public Theatre’s STEP, or Student Theatre Enrichment Program, engages teenagers from low-income backgrounds to form an ensemble to write, produce and perform a production, which normally tours around the city in the summer to parks and other public spaces.

STEP is offering a little something different this time. It will give two performances of a free, online program called Women in Finding W.T.A. (Who They Are). A cast of five — Ali Alia, Samone Cummings, Ste-vee Lang, Azizah Muhammad and Kaylee Yaw — directed by CPT artistic associate India Nicole Burton, will present their take on the challenges facing young women of color in America today. Each of the performers will present a different story arc as they investigate the world into which each was born.

“In order to achieve their objective, they must become detectives, investigators, and venture on a relentless journey of self-healing and exploration,” says the production’s description. “They are a part of a unique squad called: Generation Z.”

Tickets are free, with one ticket per email address. Tickets “sales” close two hours before curtain time. To order tickets, go to student-theatre-enrichment-program-step/.
