Cleveland’s Tischler Klezmer Orchestra was named after beloved Cleveland sax player Norman Tischler, who passed away in 2019 after 50 years of playing with virtually every musician and band in town. It features a variety of players who have performed this distinctive Eastern European music heard at weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs and other events.
The group is hosting a Ukrainian Relief Benefit Concert this Sunday at The Temple-Tifereth Israel in Beachwood, with money raised going to the Jewish global refugee nonprofit HIAS and the International Rescue Committee, which aids people in humanitarian crises.
Quite a variety of musicians will play including Steven Greenman, Moss Stanley, Steve Ostrow, Yael Senamaud, Nataliya Pshenychna, Henry Samuels, Noah Budin, The Temple-Tifereth Israel Cantor Kathy Sebo and the Tischler Klezmer Orchestra.
“We are grateful to The Temple-Tifereth Israel for support for this important concert,” says Stanley in a press release. “Our goal is to show solidarity with Ukraine and support ongoing relief efforts by performing the music and songs that helped earlier generations of Ukrainians and East European Jews survive the wars and upheavals of their day.”
There’s a $20 suggested minimum donation and you can also donate online. Go to tkoukrainebenefitconcert for more information and to donate. Masks are required.
