Thu 6/20 @ 7PM
Blossom Music Center opened in 1968 to provide a summer home for the Cleveland Orchestra, which owns the bucolic facility in Cuyahoga Falls. The year it opened it also offered some folk/acoustic concerts by artists such as Judy Collins. But it was the following year when things broke wide open with headliners such as Janis Joplin and Blood Sweat and Tears — the latter allegedly drew the largest crowd in Blossom history, and reviews emphasized something that will be familiar to Blossom patrons to this day: the horrific traffic jam.
Learn all about the ups (amazing shows) and downs (traffic!) of this beautiful rural outdoor pavilion, probably the MOST beautiful such facility in the country, from the facility’s former general manager Chris Fahlman in “Backstage at Blossom,” at the Music Box. Fahlman joined the Blossom staff in 1969 and was asked to manage the facility the following year when he was just 19, launching his 50-year career in the music and entertainment business. He’ll have plenty of stories to tell about the thousands of artists who’ve passed through the venue including the Michael Stanley Band who played a record four sold-out shows in a single season.
The program is free and starts at 7pm. Doors open at 5 for dinner; make your dinner reservation here.
