Sun 3/21 @ 3-4PM
Each spring since 2009, in honor of Women’s History Month, curator Mary Urbas, director of the Gallery at Lakeland Community College, has put together a show called From Woman, featuring the work of local, regional and national artists, with a heavy emphasis on the former. Initially inspired by the work of the Guerrilla Girls collective, which created projects to focus attention on gender disparities in the arts, she fills Lakeland’s spacious galleries with the work of dozens of artists. And in recent years, she’s worked with other galleries, studios and spaces to make it a region-wide celebration. This year, she’s even published a directory to the nearly 100 participating artists and spaces.
You can actually go out to the Gallery at Lakeland and see From WOMAN XIV … Created by Women, Of Women & About Women in person, and it’s well worth the trip. If you don’t feel up to that, Urbas has posted a video tour of the show online that leads viewers through the work, with her commentary.
On Sunday March 21, she’ll be hosting a virtual reception from 3-4pm where you can see and learn more about the work. The show runs through Friday March 26.
